泰山木と合歓木

7階の村中さんが近くに泰山木と合歓木が咲いていると教えてくれた。村中さんは私の生け花作品を毎回写真に撮ってご家族に送って下さっているのだそう。

探してみると泰山木は隣のマンションの周りに2本、香椎浜中央公園の西側フェンス沿いに4本あった。泰山木という名前は知っていたが、実際に花を見たのは初めて。白くて大きくて立派な花。大木になるので上の方の花は見えにくい。北米中南部原産、もくれん科常緑高木で20mにもなる。花は5～7月ごろ。花ことばは前途洋々、威厳。Magnolia grandiflora

合歓木も公園東側道路沿いにあった。合歓木は美智子上皇后の「ねんねんねむのき眠りの木」の歌で有名。ネムノキ属は熱帯に分布するが、その中でネムノキは耐寒性が強く温帯で広く栽培される。落葉小高木。夜になると葉が眠るように閉じる（就眠運動）。花期は6～7月。淡紅色の花が10～20集まって夕方に開く。果実は豆果で細長く扁平。花言葉は歓喜。

Mr. Muranaka living on 7th floor taught me that several Magnolia grandifloras and Silk trees are blooming near our condo. He said he is used to take photos of my Ikebana arrangements every time and always send them to his family.

I could find 2 Magnolia grandifloras in the site of next condo and 4 trees in the Kashiihama Central Park. I knew its name but haven’s seen the flowers. The flowers are white, big and gorgeous. It glows 20 meters or so, therefore flowers are not easy to be found. The codes for flowers are “bright future” and “dignity”.

The Silk trees also are found in the same park. It is quite famous among Japanese as the ex-empress Michiko made a song of Silk trees for her crown prince Naruhito. The leaves of Silk trees are close when it dark and the flowers are light pink and open at the sunset. The code for flowers is “joy”.
